You’ve likely heard talk of the growing, global coworking movement. But what is it really? Is it just another trend that will die off just as quickly as it gained momentum? Not if you ask any one of the millions of professionals, worldwide, who call a coworking space home.
The Modern Coworking Space
A recent report from Deskmag revealed that coworking spaces have been growing at a rate of nearly 100%, year over year, for the past 5 years.* Though some might consider a growth rate of this magnitude to be synonymous with a bubble, a term that has become all too familiar in today’s real estate market; Deskmag instead points to a shift in the modern work world. Though there is a multitude of contributing factors to the growth of the coworking movement, here are a couple:
Mobile Workforce
The majority of coworkers are the self-employed and those working for small start-ups. Regardless of business model, most are in internet-based creative industries. Those who work in this growing market segment enjoy the flexibility of working from virtually anywhere. As more and more professionals join the mobile workforce, many find themselves looking for an office space to call home. Those who once set up shop in a home office or coffee house are now seeking coworking spaces.
The Success of Coworkers
Not only do coworking spaces provide highly affordable work stations, they foster an environment of innovation. In fact, 86% of coworkers report a growth in their business network as a result of coworking, 71% said their creativity had increased and 68% said they are able to better focus in a coworking environment.**
What does this tell us? The mobile work force is only growing and freelancers worldwide are discovering the benefits of coworking spaces. As the providers of the very first coworking space in the El Dorado Hills area, we are proud to be part of this movement. We have had the opportunity to watch many local professionals thrive, as a result of our space, and we look forward to providing the backdrop for many more success stories.
