We pride ourselves on the relationships we build with our members here at Business Workspaces. This month, we had the honor of speaking with Steven Mills at the Mills Institute. Tell us about your company and what you do?
I am Steven Mills and I am a family practitioner. I am board certified in age management and hormone medicine as well as certified in functional medicine. I’ve been in the El Dorado Hills area for about six years and in the greater Sacramento area for ten years practicing medicine.
How did you get started in your field?
I have wanted to be a physician my whole life because I come from a medical family. With my dad being a doctor and my mom a nurse, it was in the cards for me at a young age. I initially thought I wanted to be a plastic surgeon, but after consideration, I decided to go into the family practice. When I moved back to California, my practice turned into more functional age management. My goal was to get to the root causes of disease rather than writing prescriptions. I wanted to figure out a way to prevent these issues within my clients. My current career is getting into the age management and the functional medicine side of the business, which I am very much enjoying.
What are some of the daily habits that you do each day or morning to be more successful?
Personally, I believe if you are not in a good headspace, it’s hard to help other people, especially in my job. Having the ability to ground myself, stay optimistic, and recognize my blessings is very important to my everyday values. I have been blessed and I choose to focus on that and stay positive which carries into my conversations with my patients. In my line of work, it is very important to be present so, I must put aside any distractions in my life, to ensure my clients are the prime focus. My patients appreciate that I give them my full attention rather than focusing on the next patient or stressors in my life.
What is something unique about yourself that most people don’t know?
I believe most of my clients are not fully aware of how invested I am in their health journey. I am a very focused person and constantly think about how I can better their lives. I want to solve each issue and provide the best advice for them daily.
What’s something fun outside of your business that you like to do on the weekends?
I live on five acres of land that allows for many activities such as working, gardening, and completing projects around my home and property. I really enjoy remodeling projects relating to building decks and gardens, as well as any other updates on my home. I also love to barbeque and spend time with my beautiful wife.
Why did you choose Business Workspaces and how has it helped you and your business so far?
Business Workspaces was the perfect solution to what I needed. I live in Jackson and work in El Dorado Hills, so it is a perfect location for my business. The space is perfect for my business since I do work part-time from both the office here and at home. I am very happy with the space and location, it works perfectly with my business needs!
I don’t know how many times my clients have come in and said, “oh my gosh, is this your office? It’s stunning!” You walk in, to a great lobby, with a great waiting area for my clients. It looks rich and lavish. They also provide a receptionist desk with the space which is like having your personal concierge upfront.
Business Workspaces also helps keep my price point of doing business very low, I am not having to purchase a building, reception services of my own, or any other costs such as the internet. Instead, I can use that money to invest back into my business.
How long have you had an office with us?
Two years, going three.
What is your favorite place to vacation?
Honestly, I don’t really have a favorite place. One vacation I really enjoyed was going to Boston to do a driving tour of all of New England. We took the back roads to Niagara Falls and had so much fun. My wife also goes on business trips throughout the year, and I will join her on occasion. I have always had fun doing that, but we also love staycations on the weekends. We recently purchased an RV and have begun planning several trips. We want to do a vacation experience called the Harvest Host, where you can park your RV at different vineyards. We would love to go to the lakes around this area as well to do some camping. We had a trip to Spain planned but when Covid hit it disrupted those plans.
